School Safety

OLSH is committed to taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of all of our students, faculty and staff. While we hope that a natural disaster or other serious incidents never occur, our goal is to be as prepared as possible for any potential emergency. OLSH Administration and the school’s Safety Committee continues to work with local law enforcement, emergency management, and public health officials to develop and review school safety plans and procedures.

OLSH has adopted the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) - a set of research-based actions/drills designed to prepare students, faculty, staff, and parents for emergency situations. The SRP, developed by the I Love U Guys Foundation, provides simple, straightforward actions to take and a common language shared by emergency response personnel. Throughout the school year, all students, faculty and staff will participate in various drills to educate students on the five possible actions of the SRP: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. Signs detailing the protocol are posted in each classroom and around the school buildings to serve as a visual reminder for students and staff.

Emergency Messages

OLSH transmits crisis/emergency messages when necessary, using the following media:

  • Phone message notification system
  • Email
  • OLSH.myschoolapp.com - Blackbaud password-protected site
  • www.olsh.org - school website
  • Local radio and television station broadcasts (inclement weather)

The nature of each situation will dictate the type of communication used, in order to keep students as safe as possible, while keeping parents informed.

How can parents/guardians help?

  • Keep emergency contact information updated on your child(ren)’s Contact Card in your Blackbaud account. This information includes your home and emergency phone numbers, home address, and any special medical needs.
  • Encourage your child to follow directions given by school personnel.
  • Stay calm. Our priority is keeping students safe.
  • Avoid posting about an ongoing/active incident on social media.
  • Be patient when waiting for a phone message from your child - they will be instructed when to send messages to parents in a safe and timely manner.
