Department Highlights

  • Student artists are regularly recognized for their work in the Student Art Exhibit of the Diocese of Pittsburgh schools.
  • The theatre department competes in the PHSSL State Drama Festival at Bloomsburg University each year.
  • There are two Fine Arts Festivals each year, featuring student artwork on display gallery-style, and concerts featuring the concert choir and student recitals.
  • The art department sponsors the Empty Bowls event every few years, raising awareness for hunger issues and funds for OLSH’s on-site food pantry, Our Lady’s Pantry.
  • The Concert Choir regularly performs at the Allegheny County Courthouse and Pittsburgh International Airport during the Christmas season.
  • Performance students are encouraged to audition for and participate in Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) honors ensembles. Thirteen students have represented OLSH at the junior high and high school levels since 2014.
  • The annual OLSH Musical has been nominated for nearly 90 Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater over 25 years. The shows have won 16 Gene Kelly Awards and OLSH students have received over $35,000 in college scholarships
  • Students are invited to share their musical talents at weekly school masses, singing or providing instrumental accompaniment with the chapel choir.
