OLSH Student-Athletes Receive Blessing at Palm Sunday Mass

At the beginning of each sports season, the student-athletes of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School join the Felician Sisters for Mass and receive a special blessing for a safe and successful season. This past weekend, 75 members of the baseball, softball, boys volleyball, and boys and girls track and field teams, and their parents, filled the Chapel for Palm Sunday Mass.

Dressed in their team uniforms, the students stood before Fr. Sam Esposito, who celebrated Mass, as he led the congregation in a prayer over them. Fr. Sam told all present that it was especially appropriate that OLSH held their spring sports blessing on this day, since Pope Francis had declared March 25, 2018, the official celebration of World Youth Day.

Mr. Jeff Hulbert, OLSH Mission Leader, is instrumental in planning the student-athlete blessings each season. He was pleased to see the students and Sisters gathered together for Mass.  “It is always a special day anytime we get to share time together with the Sisters,” said Hulbert.  “For all that the Sisters have taught us by their years of service, we are fortunate to celebrate Mass with them on such a special day in our Church.”
