Student-Produced OPAL Magazine Publishes First Issue

OLSH junior, Jordan Jones, had an idea. She wanted to create a space for other creators (like her) at OLSH. She thought a lot about it, talked to friends, researched, and brainstormed. She found a moderator for the group (Mr. Wojtechko) and the activity was approved. After holding an interest meeting and forming a staff of reviewers and editors, Jordan and her team invited OLSH students and teachers to submit materials for publication in the first issue. Photos, drawings, paintings, poetry, and other writing came in. The OPAL staff worked to create a layout using Canva and published the issue digitally using HeyZine. The team is accepting submissions for the next issue.

OPAL is not the first-ever OLSH literary magazine. In the 90s and 00s, English teacher Mrs. Barbara Desman moderated the annual creation of OLSH Echo, a printed magazine that published original student poetry, prose, and printed art.
