OLSH is alive with activity all summer long!

From summer camps to conditioning sessions to preparations for the 2019-2020 school year, the OLSH campus is bustling this summer and we’d love to see you! Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what’s going on during the summer months at OLSH.

Summer Camps

OLSH offers an array of summer camp opportunities to students in grades PreK through high school! From the University of Notre Dame’s Center for STEM Education Camp in June to various sports skills clinics and camps to our faith and art-focused Creator Camp, the OLSH campus has been full of fun each week. So far over 80 campers have experienced the expertise of OLSH’s faculty and coaches as they explored their interests. The slate of summer camp opportunities wraps up next week with Boys Volleyball Skills Camp and Girls Basketball Skills Camp. Limited spots are still available – visit www.olsh.org/summercamp/ to learn more!

Celebrations

OLSH’s history-making year continued through the summer – and the staff has enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate the success of our students and alumni. OLSH won the TribLive High School Sports Network Cup for Section 2A for the second year in a row after enjoying momentous success in athletics with three WPIAL Championships (Football, Girls Basketball, and Boys Basketball) and appearances by many teams deep into the playoffs. Alumnus Cameron Johnson ’14 was selected in the first round of the NBA draft and will play for the Phoenix Suns next season – the first WPIAL player to be selected in the first round since the 1970s! And recently, we received word of our students’ AP exam scores and were excited to learn that our students earned qualifying scores on 72.5% on their exams and several students earned scores of 5 (the maximum score possible), which will earn them AP Scholar distinction.

Planning and Preparing

At OLSH, the summer has always been a time of planning and preparation. Our maintenance team is working hard to deep clean the school and prepare each space for the students’ return in August. Ms. Dolores Manuel has transitioned to her new role as Assistant Business Manager and Ms. Lynn Riale has transitioned to her new full-time role in the Main Office. Mrs. Cheryl Karashin, CFRE, OLSH’s new VP for Advancement, began working with her team this week. Teachers have completed professional development and training sessions and fall sports are already in full swing with open gyms and conditioning sessions.

Admissions

The Office of Admissions has been busy taking families on tours of the school, conducting transfer student interviews, and proctoring placement exams, all while planning Freshman Foundations Day for the incoming class of 2023!
