OLSH Students Volunteer at McGuire Memorial to Celebrate NCSW

As a part of our continuing celebration of National Catholic Sisters Week, a group of students and faculty from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School volunteered at McGuire Memorial on March 13. This Felician Ministry is run by Sister Mary Thaddeus Markelewicz, C.S.S.F., President and CEO, and serves adults and children with severe physical and developmental disabilities. Located in New Brighton, PA, McGuire operates a school, residential facilities, respite care, vocational training, and more.

Twenty OLSH students, along with the Felician Sisters from Our Lady of Hope Providence, joined residents of McGuire Memorial to shoot basketball, bowl, do crafts, make health bars, play bean bag Tic Tack Toe and ring toss, and even play on the Wii.

Jeff Hulbert, OLSH Mission Leader, supervised the students on the trip and was pleased to see the connections they made with the McGuire Memorial residents. “It was great to see the OLSH kids building relationships with people they never met,” he said. “We cannot thank Sr. Thaddeus enough for allowing us the opportunity to spend time with these amazing people.  It was tough to not get emotional when we had to return to school. Our OLSH students are looking forward to doing more with the Sisters as well as with McGuire Memorial.”
