This season, the Chargers earned another trip to the WPIAL Class 1A Boys Soccer Championship, and while they fell short, the performance and culture of this team were both impressive and commendable. In the championship game on October 30 at Highmark Stadium, the Chargers were defeated 3–1 by the Bentworth Bearcats.
From the opening minutes, this OLSH squad showed why they’re among the top programs in Class 1A. The Chargers entered the final as undefeated section champions with a dominant 10–0 section record and an 18–0 overall record.
Individually, the Chargers also shined. Midfielder Owen Minzer was named the Class A Player of the Year by the Western Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association. Seniors Patrick Altmar, Brady Hernandez, Owen Minzer, Luke Wrabley, and Peter Zink all earned All-WPIAL and All-Section honors, recognizing their skill, leadership, and contributions to the team’s success.
What stood out all season, though, was how this group operated as more than just teammates — they were truly a family. They played for each other, supported one another through every challenge, and celebrated every victory together. Their teamwork, trust, and selflessness embodied the Charger spirit, proving that while trophies are earned on the field, championships are built through family.
The Chargers continue their post-season play in the PIAA playoffs. They dominated in round 1 vs. Bishop Carroll, winning 8-0 with goals from Aaron Callahan (2), Owen Minzer (2), Brady Hernandez (1), Issac Tarbuk (1), Wyatt Walsh (1), and Collin Hernandez (1).
The team advanced to the Quarterfinal round on Saturday, November 8 vs. Lancaster Mennonite at Mansion Park Stadium in Altoona at 3:00 pm. Check www.olshathletics.org for broadcast details.
