History was made on the golf course this week as senior Jonah Schollaert achieved his dream and became the first OLSH student-athlete to win a WPIAL Boys’ Golf Individual Championship.
Competing in the Class 2A final, Jonah posted an impressive two-day score of 144 (+1) to capture the gold medal. He opened with a 69 (-2) at Hill Crest Country Club, finishing the first round in the lead, then followed with a 75 (+3) at Valley Brook Country Club to secure the victory by two strokes.
Throughout the tournament, Jonah’s consistency and composure stood out. He recorded multiple birdies and steady pars to hold off a competitive field, including runner-up Luke Sikora of Greensburg Salem.
Jonah has had an impressive high school golf career, playing in the WPIAL individual final all four years, finishing 13th in his freshman year, 3rd as a sophomore, and tying for 4th last year. .
With the win, Jonah not only claimed his place in OLSH history but also advanced to the PIAA State Championships for the fourth consecutive year. Last year, he tied for 2nd place in the state. His wealth of experience competing at high-pressure matches should serve him well when he heads to Penn State later this month for his final high school match.
Congratulations to Jonah on this remarkable achievement! The entire OLSH community will be cheering him on as he competes at states.
