Meet Wes '26

Just Get Involved: Wesley '26 Leads by Example

Senior Wesley Goshen doesn’t do anything halfway. He throws himself fully into a wide range of activities and extracurriculars, giving 100% to each one.

“I just believed, ever since going into high school, to always be involved, make yourself known, get out there, and make connections,” he said.

One of the places Goshen makes those connections is on the cross country field, where his role as a senior carries added weight.

“Our coach encourages us to lead, push everyone. You have to be the role model, to be the example. So, I'm practicing being a leader every day,” Goshen explained.

Beyond athletics, he also sees the value in the skills gained through involvement in other areas of school life.

“Campus ministry, for example, you're learning how to lead in your faith and you're surrounded by other people that are also interested in growing in their faith,” he said.

A highlight for him has been participating in the annual Campus Ministry retreats, Chi-Rho and Mic-Rho, specifically designed for underclassmen.

“I think that was the biggest jump I've taken in my faith in my life,” Goshen reflected. “It really helped teach me how to live out my faith and then how to live like Jesus would.”

He is also active in the Junior Achievement program, which sends OLSH students into local grade schools to teach kids about money and economics.

“That's a good experience to learn how to mentor kids and public speaking, too,” he said.

On top of all that, Wesley serves as the Executive Producer of WCHR, a program he has been part of throughout his entire OLSH career.

“And it's exciting to show kids that are also excited — to teach people who are coming in like I once was,” Goshen said.

Reflecting on his many experiences, he sums up his philosophy simply:

“One of the best ways to be successful in life is get out there, make yourself known, and connections with people will get you places,” he said. “That's pretty much my point: just get involved.”
