OLSH students and families are known for their generosity as together they live out the call to “serve where you are needed”. But our school was recently blessed to be on the receiving end of generosity from the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, who sponsored the recently closed Vincentian Academy in Pittsburgh. As the SCN Sisters worked to clear out the school building, they came to the decision to offer their abundant resources to a fellow religious sister-led ministry - OLSH!
Sr. Camille Panich invited the OLSH staff to visit their building and select items that they thought could be of use in our school. As we are preparing to begin a school year with a significant increase in enrollment and make adjustments for health and safety, the opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time for OLSH.
Administration, faculty and staff members visited Vincentian on several occasions, carefully reviewing available items. Our maintenance team, aided by volunteer teachers and staff, filled a 26-foot rental truck -- on two separate days -- with furniture, tools, textbooks, and cleaning and classroom materials - many of which were in new or barely used condition! The items, from storage cabinets to desks, lightbulbs to paper products, will be distributed throughout the OLSH building. Two trips were made with the rental truck, and faculty and staff also filled their own vehicles with items to transport to OLSH. “We couldn’t be more thankful for this abundant blessing as well as for the kindness with which it was extended to us. I look forward to hosting a visit of our benefactors in the very near future, so they can observe all that they gave us, and have the satisfaction of knowing that we will be good stewards of the many resources they shared with our school”, said OLSH president Terry Donoghue.
The generosity of Sr. Camille and the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth will allow OLSH to provide additional resources to our students and teachers this year and we are so grateful. We invite you to join us in prayer for the Sisters throughout the year in thanksgiving for their benevolence and support of our school.
