Dear OLSH Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School will administer the PSAT to all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, beginning at 7:40 a.m. The test is being offered free of charge, and no sign-ups are required.
The purpose of the PSAT (Preliminary SAT) is to give all students an opportunity to take a college readiness test and to identify students who might benefit from advanced coursework, such as AP courses. Even if your child has not yet decided to attend college, taking the PSAT will be a valuable experience and may help him/her make decisions about post-secondary education. All students who take the test will have access to the following resources: - An online score report, including projected SAT® score ranges, state percentiles, and the ability to sort answer explanations by difficulty and question type
- Free, personalized online SAT test prep through Khan Academy
All juniors taking the PSAT will have the opportunity to qualify for participation in the National Merit® Scholarship Program. PSAT/NMSQT scores are used as an initial screen of entrants to the National Merit Scholarship Program, which recognizes outstanding academic achievement by U.S. high school students. OLSH students have received National Merit commendation because of their excellent performance on this test. The PSAT/NMSQT also provides Minority Scholarship opportunities.
It is recommended that students bring at least two sharpened #2 pencils and a calculator on the day of the test. (Scientific, 4-function, and graphing calculators are permitted.) Students MAY NOT share calculators or use the calculators on their phones. Please ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast before the exam. |
