What
IMPORTANT: MASKS REQUIRED for all students, faculty, staff & visitors
When
9/7/2021

In accordance with the recent mandate from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, masks will be required indoors for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors to OLSH effective Tuesday, September 7, 2021. This mandate also includes school-sponsored indoor events and activities that take place after school, on or off campus. When a child/student is participating in a sports practice activity or event, whether indoors or outdoors, a mask is not required.

The following has been added to the Student/Parent Handbook regarding the wearing of face coverings:

Decisions regarding the continued wearing of face coverings will be based on the rate of local community transmission and recommendations from the CDC, Pennsylvania Department of Health, Allegheny Health Department, and PA Department of Education. As of September 7, 2021, in accordance with the mandate from the PA Department of Health, face coverings will be required at all times when inside except when eating or drinking. “Mask breaks” may be taken outside with 6 feet social distancing.

Staff and students must wear face masks correctly per CDC guidelines, covering the nose and mouth and must extend to below the chin, and are encouraged to wash face masks accordingly. Face shields are permitted as an alternative to cloth face masks. Per CDC guidelines, if face shields are used without a mask, they should wrap around the sides of the wearer’s face and extend to below the chin. A zero tolerance policy regarding the wearing of masks and adherence to State/CDC guidelines and building protocols will be enforced, as well as our normal discipline procedures. Individuals who have an ongoing medical or mental condition or disability, documented in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, that precludes the wearing of a face covering in school must provide a written medical excuse. The excuse must be from a physician who is board certified in Allergy/Immunology, Pulmonary medicine or Psychiatry.

All face masks worn at school must adhere to the following:

  •  Solid colored and/or patterned masks are acceptable.
  • Masks may not have any words printed other than the student’s name or “OLSH”
  • All masks must reflect Catholic values

Unacceptable masks include ones that contain (but are not limited to):
  • Political-related content (words and/or images)
  • Profanity (words and/or images)
  • Any message and/or image deemed inappropriate or distracting

If the OLSH Administration deems a mask inappropriate, and the student is asked to change his/her mask, an alternate disposable mask will be provided for the student to wear for the day.

Thank you for your cooperation,
