Dystopian Literature and Film Studies

This course will explore the concept of dystopia through both literature and film. We will analyze both short stories and novels for:

• elements of dystopian society
• juxtaposition of utopian ideals
• if/how the lessons apply to modern society

We will also incorporate nonfiction articles regarding the relevance of dystopian literature and film. There will be both an academic and creative writing component. If the course is a semester long, we will screen one film as part of the film studies component; if the course is a year-long course, we might screen two (depending on timing).
