      This is the first day back to school – please do not forget this is due that day as you will be docked points if it is late.  Google classrooms will not be set up until school starts so this must be done and submitted on paper!

 

1. You will read “The Joy of the Gospel”, an Apostolic Exhortation of Pope Francis. The book is yours to keep so feel free to highlight and mark it up as it suits you to do so. Answer the following questions:

 

Chapter 1  The Church’s Missionary Transformation

1. 
   When the right moment arises in our relationships with others, Pope Francis is asking us to speak about how faith fills our lives with meaning. Give an example of a time when you did this in the past, or a time when you could have but failed to do so. Include insights from the reading that relate to your experience.

Chapter 2 Amid the Crisis of Communal Commitment

1.  What is your experience of meeting the poor, either in person or by reading about their lives in the news?
2.   Looking back over Pope Francis’ key points in #50 - 52, which one or two of them really stand out as vital and important? Please share why.

3. How does our Catholic social teaching reflect the Gospel and the teachings of Jesus Christ? Name four or five ways.
4. If you have you experienced the Church as  dry and lifeless rather than on fire with the love of Jesus Christ is the issue with you or with the Church, or with both? Explain.
5. Choose an item from the articles #102 - #108 and discuss how you believe the OLSH community, or your parish community can respond to the challenge your choice represents.

1.  Describe how you believe OLSH can take concrete steps to include the poor and vulnerable in our care and be in greater solidarity with them. Be quite specific according to what you have read.

1.  List the principles that Pope Francis has outlined here and give one or two examples of how each plays a role in evangelization.
2.  Choose one principle from this list and talk about how it could be implemented at OLSH. How can you be a part of the implementation?

2. Has your faith ever been challenged by a family member, friend, co-worker etc.?  How did you respond?

 

2.Type a one  page essay and tell me a little about yourself so I can get to know a little about you.  Include the current state of your spiritual life and your reasons for taking honors religion. Be honest if it is simply for honors credit say so. Don’t tell me what you think I want to hear.
