- Choose one of the sonnets in the packet ONLY (by Shakespeare, Sidney, or Spenser)
- Identify the theme (main message/idea) of the poem
- Find a modern song that has lyrics with the same theme **Must be Catholic high school appropriate content and CLEAN**

- 4-5 sentences minimum
- Identify the song, the poem, and introduce the main similarities and differences
- LAST SENTENCE: Thesis describing the main similarities and differences between the song and poem
Paragraph 2:
- 5-7 sentences minimum
- Identify TWO SEPARATE lines from the song and TWO SEPARATE lines from the poem that are similar and explain their similarities and differences (song line and poem line - compared, then another song line and poem line - compared)
- Explain the differences between the song and poem (themes, symbols, etc.)
- Explain the use of at least ONE literary device in the poem and ONE in the song (i.e. symbols, repetition, imagery, simile, metaphor, etc.) Why is this a significant addition? How does it help reinforce the main message of the poem and/or song?

- Re-state thesis at beginning of paragraph
- Recap the main messages and main similarities and differences
