Please post and submit your work here for credit.
If you were in class, you were distributed a packet. I am posting the packet for which people that are at home can use to complete this lab--this version is slightly amended to help you to complete this on your own, with a partner, at home. If you are online or absent this week, you need to complete this lab on your own. Please let me know if you have any trouble getting any of the supplies list below:
LIST OF SUPPLIES FOR HOME: Several odorous materials of your choice, chopped apple, chopped onion, salt water, sugar water, soy sauce, coffee, lemon juice, mints, hot sauce (or something else spicy)

If you are at home, you will need a lab partner to help you out (parent, grandparent, sibling, etc.). You just need a metric ruler and a flashlight. I have provided a printable ruler to use if you do not have access to one at home.
Follow the directions for each of the different reflexes. Write a hypothesis where prompted. Record all of your data and observations in the data tables provided. Observations should be more detailed than 'It moved.' Answer the review questions at the end to wrap up this lab.

We are now going to talk specifically about the special senses (taste, hearing, sight, smell)!
1) Research two interesting facts about the sense you have been assigned, according to your last night (below). Try taking a deeper dive than the first one or two websites that Google gives you! Post both of your facts here.
Last Name (B-->F): Smell
Last Name (G-->M): Taste
Last Name (P-->Schuck): Sight
Last Name (Stull-->W): Hearing
2) What is one question that you still have about the nervous system?
3) Read the posts of your classmates, and respond meaningfully to at least five of them. Perhaps comment about their facts or add to them. Maybe try to answer their question if you think you know the answer. It's up to you--participate more than just saying 'Wow!'

Please either read the following article or watch the following video about meditation and how it can affect the brain. Then, answer the following:
What is one way in which mindfulness has been shown to alter structures of the brain? Further, do you practice mindfulness?
If yes: Explain what you do, and describe how it helps you.
If no: What is something you might be interested in trying, and why?

Due:
Use craft materials to create a model of a neuron. At the very least, cut up some paper to make the different parts.
Include the following structures: axon, cell body, dendrites, myelin sheaths, nodes of Ranvier, terminals
Put everything together to create your neuron. Finally, add an arrow to show the direction that a message flows through a neuron (where it starts --> where it ends). You can place your model on a piece of paper, and draw the arrow on the paper. Make sure that you label (or provide a key) that identifies each part of the neuron.

NERVOUS SYSTEM - PART 1
Today we covered the structures that make up a typical neuron--a cell body, an axon, and dendrites. Additionally, there are other structures associated with the axon of neurons, which are also going to determine whether the nervous tissue of the brain or spinal cord appears white or gray.
If you missed class today, you still need to get your notes from a classmate and submit here!

The other part of the assignment involves recording a 10-15 second video of yourself participating in this dance. You can choose any part--just make sure that the music can be heard in the video! Then, indicate whether you would like to enter into the competition to earn bonus points on a future test.
---> If you say YES, I will include your video in a post with all of the other competing videos for you and your classmates to vote on.
---> If you say no, no one else will see your video! But you do still need to submit the video to get full credit in this assignment.

I want to be clear here--this is a pretty laidback assessment. We are using it as a way to wrap up our work in Chapter 6 while also giving you an opportunity to improve your grade in the 'Exam' category. This assignment is worth 25 points. Put your work (format it correctly, though!) in the Google Doc included in this assignment.
You will be writing a 200- to 400-word response to one of the prompts listed in the document below. Think of it as a fancy long-response question from a typical exam. I am only asking you to choose one, but make sure that you do a good job! Follow the directions in the document closely, provide all correct information, and you will earn full credit! 25/25! It is as simple as that.

By the end of the period on Thursday (10/15), you need to upload all of the work that you have completed so far on your Cell Project. This might be a document in which you have been compiling information or detailing your plans, or clear pictures of the actual poster or model that you have started.
Does the project need to be finished by tomorrow? Absolutely not! But you have had a week already, plus you will have had two whole periods this week to work on it, so I do expect a decent amount of progress. This is meant to take some pressure off of you outside of class, and to give me an opportunity to provide you with some feedback before you finish it for next week.

Due:
First, watch the video that I have provided below to review the terms for the anatomical regions. This stuff is SO IMPORTANT for this class this year. Then, go to the Quizlet for some interactive practice. Use the flashcards, games, whatever it takes to help you review these terms.
For credit for this assignment, complete the 'Test' on Quizlet. Once finished, take a screenshot to show me how you did. See the screenshots below for where to find the Quizlet Test, and what your results screenshot should look like for credit. You will get points proportional to how you did in your submission. You may retake the test as many times as you want before submitting.
