A DBQ was given. You are to complete this DBQ in one setting and time yourself. It is to be written on lined paper and turned in for a grade. NO more rewrites. If you miss anything on the rubric it will be 5 points off. These are the common mistakes I see
1. Contextualization should lead into the question and follow through
2. Use all the documents!!. Explain what the document means and how does it answer the question
3. Never quote a document, interpret it to answer the question
4. A document does not have a POV, only and author does! What is his/her POV and why
5. Must have 4 POV, purpose or audience
6. Reread the question before you add additional evidence not found in the document and make sure your additional evidence helps answer the question and give examples or evidence
7. Reread the question before you write your connection. What other part of history reminds you of this question and give evidence to support it, connecting it to the question

Assignment
********This is the summer assignment for all AP World History students fall of 2018**********
Congratulations of signing up for AP World History!!!!! It is important to read your entire AP packet and come with questions to the May 30th morning meeting.
Below you will find 3 chapters of our Stearns textbook and two chapters of our AMSCO textbook needed to complete this assignment. I do not know if this BLOG will be down for maintenance over the summer, so I suggest printing the reading chapters before you leave for the school year.
You should have received a copy of the assignment if you registered for AP with guidance. If you did not, see your guidance counselor. If you have any questions please email me over the summer. DO NOT procrastinate completing this assignment and complete it individually. I expect you to be a wiz of period 1 when I see you in August. Period 1 is 8,000 BCE to 600 CE. You will be tested on Period 1 throughout the entire year.
On the first day of school you need to bring a plastic folder with your name on it in sharpie. In this folder will be
1. PIRATES charts
2. Chapter 1 and 2 essay responses - the more you write the better your score and understanding
3. Answer the 8 multiple choice questions to both AMSCO chapters 1 and chapter 2 on a piece of paper (you only need the answers on a piece of paper. Make sure you label chapters 1 AMSCO and chapter 2 AMSCO and # the responses)
4. completed study guide to chapters 1 and 2 of Stearns textbook
5. Mapping section (not mandatory for the summer assignment) only if you decided to catch up on world geography. If you decide to complete the map - For the mapping section you need the AP course description book (which I downloaded below) to complete map #1 regions. For map #1 go to page 32-33 of the course description page to complete this. For map # 2 and #3 I recommend your atlas project from World Geography or just go to the internet to locate.
6. Chapter 3 study guide will NOT go in the folder. Only #1-26 and the Han, Zhou and Qin Pirates charts completed. We will begin reviewing these answers on the first day of school.
The plastic folder will stay in my classroom all year and contain all 36 chapter tests, the summer assignment plus unit tests.
I have also included many Power Points below that may be helpful in completing the summer assignment. I would like emails throughout the summer from each of you on how this assignment is going. It can be just to "check in" I look forward to hearing from each of you.
