Studio Art Assignments

Please submit a photograph of your completed collage here.

Find a collage artist whose work you like and research their process (how they make their collages). Complete a one paragraph write-up about their process and include one example of their work.

If you have your illustration board and photo reference at home for your collage project, you will need to complete the drawing of your animal or person for next class. If not, please click on the posting on the Grid Method and read and take notes for next class. Find one artist that uses the grid method for their artwork and be prepared to share an example.

Submit either or here depending on what you worked on.

Please have gridding complete and drawing of animal completed on the white board in your supply kit for next class.

Make sure that you have at least 5-7 values and as much detail as possible including hair, clothing, background, etc.

Use Google Earth to find an abstract view of a landscape/place that you enjoy. It can be a place that you have always wanted to travel to, your backyard, the school, your favorite vacation spot...take a screenshot of it and print it out. Deboss your image by placing your print out on top of your paper and press down firmly with a ball point pen. Make sure your paper is taped down so that it does not move while you trace.

Complete 2 designs in your sketchbook using each of the slogans.
Outline in black sharpie marker. We will ink them with color in class.

Research a landscape painter and write 1 paragraph about her work. Include three images of the artist's paintings.

Virtual students, please submit a Google slide presentation of your artwork here. Make sure you crop the image so that the photograph is just your artwork, no background. Put your artwork in a Google Slides presentation with your artist statement on one slide, artwork on another, sketch on a slide, and artifact (reference) on another slide. Title the image your full name. You may find the rubric attached here.

Please add your sketch, artifact, and artist statement into the presentation. Use the attached file for your artist statement template titled "Artist Statement".

This has been a crazy finish to the year for all of you. Not only were you stricken with the upheaval of a crippling pandemic, you also had to finish out the year with a substitute teacher. My request is that you write a bit about your general sense of distance learning as it pertains to art. It is such a hands on discipline that when you are faced with the dilemma of working from home, perhaps with limited supplies or confusion about what is expected, you are forced to get creative for the result in some cases. How did you feel about the whole thing? What are some ways in which it could be improved? Do you think a kit of some sort that could be "just in case" we find ourselves distance learning again in the future would be handy? This is not a graded assignment, but I hope that you will all take a few minutes to write down your thoughts. Thank you! Mrs. O'Sullivan

Please carefully read the google presentation and follow instructions. I need to know the name of your painting and the style/period it falls in by Friday May 15. The project is due May 22, 2020 by 3pm.

This is a three week assignment and the instructions are in the google Slides presentation. Make sure you get artist approval before you continue. See the class requirements listed within. Be creative and have fun!

This will be our last and final week of our daily drawings. However don't quit, it is an excellent habit to keep up and it will make you a better more confident artist!
Due next Monday April 20th

Some of these prompts are a little more "abstract" and open-ended than Week 1. Some of them combine activities/experiences with the drawing process ie. making a playlist, cooking with a family member

Please review the Google Slide presentation. On Friday, create your own Google Slide presentation with your five finished drawings from the week and submit.

Note: Since some of you said you have watercolors and some of you do not, feel free to use any and whatever art materials that you would like. Have fun with this!
