Wilde claims that disobedience is a valuable human trait and that it promotes social progress. Write an essay that argues your position on the extent to which Wilde's claims are valid. Use appropriate examples from your reading, experience, or observations to support your argument.

Following are four texts related to the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997. Divorced from England's Prince Charles, she was the mother of Princes William and Harry. During her life the princess was known for both her philanthropy and her scandal-plagued marriage. There is a copy of the report from the BBC ( link to article), a televised speech by Queen Elizabeth (video and photos of text), the eulogy Lord Spencer, Diana's brother, delivered at her funeral service (video and photos of text), and a Wikipedia article (photos). Discuss the purpose of each text and how the interaction of speaker, audience, and subjects affects the text. Consider how effective each text is in achieving its purpose.

Write a 1-2 page discussion to the above statements (double spaced, 12 point font, Times New Roman, MLA heading).

You will be scored on your analysis of each piece and the use of textual evidence to support your ideas. The paper is due at the time of your class period.

Select one of the following scenarios. You will then share (verbally) your ideas and present your assignment to the class.

1. You are making the case for the purchase of a specific model and make of a car that will best fit your family's needs, resources, and environmental concerns.

2. You are trying to persuade your principal to add a class on video games to the list of elective courses available to students.

3. You have been asked to give a presentation to next year's incoming freshmen class on how to prepare to attend high school.

4. You have been asked to be an intern at your dream company. You are describing why you would be an ideal candidate.

I was just now able to access some of my rosters and receive the email information of some of our new students. So, that is why you are just hearing from me for the first time!
