Formal Attire for Prom

To ensure that all prom attendees are able to enjoy the evening's festivities free from worry, frustration and conflict related to the appropriateness of their attire, OLSH is initiating a pre-approval process related to gowns/dresses for formal occasions.

Each young lady planning to attend prom, whether enrolled at OLSH or the date of an OLSH student, will be required to submit a photo of herself in the dress she plans to wear to the event. Three photos are required: a front view, a back view, and a side view with arms up. Three female members of the Administration, Faculty and/or Staff will serve on a committee that will review/approve dresses. Photos will not be distributed to any other party and will be destroyed within days of the conclusion of the event.

Pictures must be emailed to olshprom@olsh.org by March 31, 2017, so that approvals can be recorded and prom tickets can be issued accordingly. Prom tickets will be not distributed until the pre-approval process is completed.

Should a dress be deemed inappropriate on the night of the dance, the young lady will be required to wear her date's jacket for the entirety of the evening or, in the case of non-compliance, asked to leave.

For photo examples of dresses that are appropriate and/or inappropriate, please download the documents below.

It is our expectation that students dress appropriately for semi-formal and formal events (eg. homecoming, prom). If the student brings a guest, the guest must also follow these regulations. It is the student’s responsibility to advise the guest of such regulations.

In order to avoid any embarrassment or frustration on the night of the event, please adhere to guidelines for formal attire found in the OLSH Parent-Student Handbook. The administration reserves the right to require a prom guest to adjust their attire in order to comply with the dress code and maintain modesty. Please consult Assistant Principal Mrs. Mary Catherine Praskovich if you have any questions or concerns at mcpraskovich @olsh.org.
