OLSH

Musical Theater

OLSH Musical Theater strives to produce high-quality performances that allow all students to grow and shine while having fun. Participation in musical theater encourages team work, time management and creativity while fostering skills in acting, singing and dance. In addition to the spring musical, a class in Theater Arts is offered to all students who are interested in learning more about all aspects of musical theater production.

Auditions for the spring musical are held in the fall and the program welcomes all interested students into the ensemble.

History of Shows

Little Shop of Horrors - 2011

In 2011, OLSH performed Little Shop of Horrors to much critical acclaim. The production was nominated for seven Gene Kelly Awards for excellence in high school musical theater and were awarded with Best Scenic Design and Best Lighting Design.

Little Shop of Horrors is the story of Seymour Krelbourne, a poor orphan who collects strange and unusual plants. His most recent acquisition, a plant he calls “Audrey II” after his co-worker (for whom he’s held a long-time crush), has an appetite for blood. Romance, hilarity, and drama ensued as OLSH actors performed his story.

Once on This Island - 2010

Nominated for seven Gene Kelly Awards, OLSH’s 2010 Spring Musical Once On This Island was a true crowd pleaser with its detailed costumes, colorful set, and energetic dancing. Once On This Island is an adaptation of a classic love story plot – a peasant girl falls in love with a wealthy boy from the other side of the island and their forbidden love has serious consequences. The ensemble tells the story of Ti Moune (Kyleigh Taylor '10), her love for Daniel (Zander Lyons '12) and the life-changing interference of the gods through song and dance.

Hello Dolly - 2009

Hello Dolly, a traditional, light-hearted musical, tells the story of widow Dolly Levi Gallagher (senior Caitlin O’Connor) and her attempts to play matchmaker with nearly everyone she meets! The show had a little bit of everything, from Irene Molloy’s (Kyleigh Taylor '10) sentimental “Ribbons Down My Back” to the comical men’s number “Takes A Woman” led by Horace Vandergelder and his store clerks. The cast of 44 students delighted audiences with their fancy footwork in “Put on Your Sunday Clothes” and the classic, “Hello Dolly”.
