Career Day

What Is Career Day?

OLSH Career Day is a biennial event held in November to give students an opportunity to explore different career options. Students sign up for careers that interest them and attend six 20-minute sessions throughout the morning. Sessions will generally have a maximum of 15-20 students.

When is Career Day?

Wednesday, November 23, 2011
7:30am-11:00am

What kinds of careers do you have at Career Day?

We welcome any and all careers to present at Career Day. Some of the careers represented in the past include FBI Agent, Marketing and Sales, Physical Therapy, Masonry, Pharmacist, Actor, Firefighter, and many more. Our students are interested in careers in all fields – business, medical, education, skilled trade, technology, etc.

What do I do if I am presenting?

We ask presenters to come to Career Day dressed for a typical day at work. You should describe your career and what you do on a daily basis. Describe what happens at your job throughout your day – what kinds of tasks you are completing. Share with the students what education and/or training is needed for your job. Do you need some sort of certification in addition to a degree or training? The students will want to know about salary information – you don’t have to share your exact salary, but give them a range. What is the typical starting salary in your career? You can also share what type of personality people that are successful in your career are going to have (for example, do you need to be a people-person?). Each session will be approximately 20 minutes long. We ask you to leave time for students to ask questions at the end of your presentation. You are welcome to bring in visual aids of any sort. If you are in need of technology (projector, lap top, etc.) please let us know! We will let you know the number of students you will be speaking to prior to the event.
